Long Term Hiatus

October 20, 2025 by Steve 1 Comment

Hello!

I’m writing this in mid-October, 2025. Some of you may have noticed that there has been no new CTMQ content since early 2025. At that time, my younger son was starting his spring club soccer season which more or less occupied my weekends. This stretched into early July.

At the time, I quietly planned a short little break from CTMQ, as I rather enjoy watching my son and his team play even if it gobbled up much of my free writing time. In April, my boss retired and I was offered a promotion at work which I accepted. At the same time, my in-laws began requiring more care as well.

Summer hit, a couple family trips, then high school soccer summer league, then fall came and with no weekend soccer games for several months, you’d think I’d get back on the CTMQ horse.

But I didn’t. I found that with weekends free for the first time since Calvin was 7, I was rather enjoying having nothing to do. I wasn’t giving myself anxiety trying to fit in a trip to some Connecticut town to hike a couple trails before and after a little museum was open for a couple hours, followed by choking down some local wine I wasn’t too fond of. I reveled in my distinct lack of things to do.

I did stuff around the house, finally got around to a lot of financial planning stuff, helped my in-laws a bit more, and began visiting my own aging parents 4 hours away. And, I began reading a lot more (@stevereadslists on instagram).

And I’m enjoying this period of my life. The only real change is I’m not writing anything for this site and I’m not flitting about the state every chance I get. I don’t know when I’ll return to it, but I definitely plan to. It might be soon, it might be when Calvin goes off to college in 2029. The whole thing needs a refresh and perhaps a new template anyway.

Thanks for reading!
