Top 5 Books I Read in 2024

Top 5 Books I Read in 2024

I read a lot of good books this year. Top 5 is impossible…

5. Treated with respect, the natural history of cannibalism across all species… including us

4. Quiet inventor and brash salesman reinvent trauma care, beat the US Army, remain good guys, and get rich

3. Just a cool alien invasion sci-fi story with action, horror, and romance

2. Gritty, staccato, yet vivid prose – my fave – about two boxers at opposite ends of their careers in California

1. Very few characters have gotten under my skin like Ripley. Perfect story telling.

Other standouts, all great:

A Short Stay in Hell, Steven L. Peck
Evicted, Matthew Desmond
Preacher (6 volume graphic novel), Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
Fatale, Jean-Patrick Manchette
A Walk in the Park, Kevin Fedarko
Crying in H-Mart, Michelle Zauner
Childhood’s End, Arthur C. Clarke
The Black Echo, Michael Connelly
The Chrysalids, John Wyndham
A Deadly Shade of Gold, John MacDonald
Uzumaki, Junji Ito
