O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
Currently, less than five percent of Bethlehem’s land is preserved. Which I found pretty surprising since there’s pretty much nothing there except fields and forest. The local land trust didn’t really get going until relatively recently, so perhaps that will change over time.
