F Greenway Trail
Newington Greenway, Newington

January 2023

If you have found yourself on this page, congratulations! It’s one of those that I’ve written and published but didn’t give it tags to stand out on the site and I never mentioned it on social media.

In fact, it’s one of those pages I shouldn’t be bothering with at all, since I was unable to find the “Newington Greenway trail.” It supposedly exists in a long, thin, strip of woods in extreme southwest Newington, right along the Rocky Hill border.

But I am determined to “hike” all of Newington’s “trails” and since the town included this in their town trails guide, here we are.

To get to the southern end, I drove along several serpentine roads and the guide suggests to just park in front of a house and go for it. This made me uncomfortable. I saw no signs, no evidence that a trail even exists behind these unsuspecting suburban houses. So I abandoned the southern end and made my way to the northern terminus, at the Newington/Wethersfield town line on Griswoldville Avenue/Two Rod Highway.

Surprisingly, there’s a turnout here. A veritable hiker’s lot! I parked and even found what would be considered a trail! I followed it. For about 50 yards.

Then it just ended in a mucky mess. That’s it. I didn’t probe any further. Which is why I’ve titled this page:
