USACE Trails Intro

US Army Corps of Engineers Trails
Colebrook, Mansfield, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Plymouth, Thomaston, Thompson, Waterbury, Watertown

It’s amazing. 14 years into this massive CTMQ project I’ve decided to throw this page together. These properties have just sort of lingered on the periphery of how I organize things on the site. When it comes to trailed properties, I have several (read: too many) categories. So why not add another?

Colebrook River Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has constructed 12 flood risk management protection dams and three hurricane protection projects (operating and maintaining the Stamford Hurricane Barrier) in Connecticut. Working with the state of Connecticut, the Corps provides quality outdoor recreational opportunities at each of the eight Corps-operated flood risk management reservoirs located within the state. I’m only interested in those with hiking trails, but it should be mentioned that Thomaston Dam is pretty much the only place in the state with a large network of sanctioned trail bike (motocross) trails. (I think the trails are closed to the bikes in the winter, so maybe I’ll check it out on foot.)

Hancock Brook Lake, Plymouth
Hop Brook Lake, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Waterbury
Mansfield Hollow Lake, Mansfield & Windham
