Frog Rock, Norwich

Supercool Frog, No Matter What They Say
Route 2, Norwich

April 2025

So there I was, driving my just-turned-14 son and two of his friends back from our go-karting adventure at Foxwoods. I was toodling along on Route 2 and in my peripheral vision to my left, I saw it: a painted frog rock in a yard.

I said nothing. I kept it cool. Cool dad Steve.

But I had to somehow mark this place! It was too late to take a picture it and I wasn’t going to turn around with three supercool teenagers in my supercool minivan and try to explain why I’m taking a picture of a rock in someone’s yard painted like a frog.

So I surreptiously took this picture:

Sigh. My supercool 14-year-old caught me and called me out. “Why did you just take a picture of that sign?”

I don’t remember what I said, but I know it was a half-truth whatever it was.

Flash-forward a few months, I come across the above picture and racked my brain to remember why I took it. Oh yeah! The frog rock of Norwich!

It dates back to at least 2017, the last time Google Streetview came though. And here he is, in all his glory.

Frank Labelle painted that rock he has since past. I have so many memories there for he was civilian plumber for the navy and had some great parties there. He will never be forgotten!
