Morris.
Yes, Morris is a town. It’s south of Litchfield. In fact, Litchfield sort of embraces morris in a warm, matronly hug. Li’l Morris.
So Li’l Morris has a land trust and a trail or two. Mama Litchfield must be so proud. (In fact, the MLT’s other trail as of 2026 is in the northeast part of Litchfield, between two Litchfield Land Trust properties, connecting to one. So sweet.)
This property is in Morris on Alain White Road, a road named for the famous Litchfieldian. Sigh. The landscape here is varied containing 12 acres of core forest, 12 acres of forested wetlands and the headwaters of Whittlesey Brook, which flows into Bantam Lake which is in… actually Morris, even though everything thinks its totally in Litchfield.
The trail here is very short, completely flat, and barely contains a curve. It was constructed by Morris Scout Troop 28 and it’s… cute. There is a large, well-constructed sign at the hiker’s lot next to a farmed field.
I set off through thick ferns. So many ferns. Ferns are nice. I passed a rusted out relic of what I believe was a farm pick-up truck from the 1940’s or 50’s, before walking through a thick little grove of laurel.
After that, voila, a sort of view over some wetlands under a large hickory tree. It is a nice spot.
And that’s it. The out and back took maybe eight minutes and that was with me being vigilant of poison ivy since I was wearing shorts and short socks.
But hey, Morris got a land trust and they got a trail, and I love that for them.
