Lover’s Leap State Park
New Milford
Straddling the Housatonic River along the northern edge of Lake Lillinonah, Lover’s Leap is a relatively small 160-acre park but has crammed in four miles of trails that take in dramatic vistas of the river gorge and historic ruins.

There’s also the fully fictional, slightly offensive story behind the park’s name. “Tradition has it, that the Pootatuck Indian Chief Waramaug’s daughter, Princess Lillinonah, and her lover plunged to their deaths” off the cliffs above the river. Other highlights include teh 1895 Berlin Iron Bridge which has become more iconic than the leaping lover story. There are also a bunch of ruins here to check out, so check them out we will.
