Mount Tom State Park
Litchfield, Morris, & Washington
I was about to say that my favorite fact about this place is that I find it very weird that Litchfield claims the park – and the state DEEP says it’s in Litchfield – when, in fact, only like 10% of it is in the town. The bulk of it is in Washington, including the entrance and buildings. Morris gets another 10%, but they get the tower! Litchfield gets the pond, but not even the swimming part of it.

But then I learned that the summit of this Mount Tom is 1,325 feet above sea level, 125 feet higher than its Massachusetts counterpart and that became my favorite fact about it. Take that far, far more popular Mt. Tom summit to the north!
So yeah, there’s a beach, a pond, and a mile-long trail to a tower near the summit. Established well over a century ago in 1915, Mount Tom is one of the oldest parks in the state park system. Let’s check it out.
