East & West West Hill Roads

What the Hill?
Barkhamsted & New Hartford

“Hey. Where are you headed?”

“Some new place in Hartford.”

“Oh yeah? What’s that?”

“Camp Workcoeman.”

“That’s not new and that’s not in Hartford.”

“Huh?”

“That’s in New Hartford and it’s been there for many years. It’s a Boy Scout Camp.”

“Oh. How do I get there?”

“Easy. You take West Hill Road from West West Hill Road or East West Hill Road and go to Camp Sequassen.”

“Huh? I’m going to Camp Workcoeman.”

“Right. Like I said, start on East West Hill Road.”

Stop to enjoy the fun road names.

Seriously. Don’t stop enjoying fun road names.

“Then turn right on Bsullak Road.”

“Huh? What’s a Bsullak?”

“I have no idea. You’re in Barkhamsted, but heading to New Hartford, and there are some interesting road names out there.”

“Okay, East West Hill Road to Bsullak Road… then?”

“Then West West Hill Road to West Hill Road.”

“Hm.”

“Yeah, and you’ll pass Brodie Park, but not Brodie Park.”

“Huh?”

“Yeah, there’s Brodie Park with the playground and beach access at West Lake and scout camp.”

“Right, I’m going to a scout camp, so that’s it?”

“No. I’m talking about the Cub Scout Camp at Brodie Park.”

“Oh, where they hike and stuff?”

“No, the hiking at Brodie Park is the other Brodie Park past this Brodie Park.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t worry about it. Turn right on West Hill Road and you’ll see Camp Sequassan on your left and Camp Sequassan on your right, so turn right.”

“Huh?”

“Don’t worry about it. That’s how you get to Camp Workcoeman. By the way, you can’t go hiking at the scout camps of New Hartford; they’re both private and you should respect that.”

“Oh. Oh well. Thanks.”
