Indian Well State Park
Shelton
Indian Well State Park is “named for its scenic waterfall and gorge.” But… is it? “Indian Well” refers to a waterfall and gorge? I guess? The long, skinny park is located on the western bank of the Housatonic River and offers a riverside beach and swimming. More my speed, CFPA’s Paugussett Trail traverses the park and there are a few other offshoot trails here as well.

According to the CT DEEP, this is a “Fun fact” – Indian Well was named because of the Romeo and Juliet-like Native American legend surrounding the Park’s scenic waterfalls and its rocky pool at the bottom of the falls. Despite the name, local Native Americans never actually used the area as a well and the legend is likely just a long-held myth told over time.
So it’s not a fact and young adult suicide is the opposite of fun. Let’s go here and experience some real fun though!
