Reptilian Rock, Colebrook

September 30, 2024 by Steve Leave a Comment

Unidentified Reptile Rock
Route 182, Colebrook

I passed this painted creature in September 2024 and as you can see below, this is fresh paint. I also know it’s relatively fresh paint because I’ve driven past here before and this bright little guy was simply not here before. (A quick check of Route 182 east of Norbrook Farm Brewery tells me it didn’t exist a year prior to my visit.)

Unfortunately, I don’t know what it’s supposed to be. Frog? Turtle? Dragon? Nothing, really, just some kind of fun animal?

Yes. Definitely that last choice… and I think that’s perfectly fine. I’m not sure how long this one will last. The rocks appear to have been hidden behind vegetation in the past and perhaps will be again in the future.

For now, enjoy Colebrook’s Unidentified Reptilian Rock. I made the effort to find it on Street View. The bottom portion is visible near the utility pole. Is the head part… unnatural? In other words, was it positioned by a human? If that’s the case, does that disqualify this roadside painted rock? Hm.

Fake tongue! Fake head?
