Northern Connecticut Land Trust: Stevenson Woodlands, Somers

December 2023

In my thoroughness, I visit any property that purports to have a trail. Sometimes, they don’t. Sometimes, they don’t when I visit and then years later, they do. That might be the case here at the Stevenson Woodlands in Somers… I have no idea. I am pretty confident stating that there were no trails in December 2023.

And there’s really no safe place to park if there is.

And there’s a nice trail system a tenth of a mile away at Camp Aya-Po. Go there. Hike there. Enjoy some wine at Worthington Vineyards and Winery which, again, is a tenth of a mile away.

The property is strategically located along the ridge extending north from Bald Mountain. It contains a section of Gillette Brook and is the home to extensive wildlife since it is near other protected areas including the Shenipsit State Forest.

So yes, it is an important 30 acres to protect, and I’m glad they’ve done so. If you’re wondering, I write and publish pages like this to be a completist, yes, but also in case someone is looking for trails in Somers and sees this listed a trailed property somewhere. I’m here for you. I love you.
