Whoops (Part 1)
Bethlehem Fair Art Museum, Bethlehem (Location)
September 2026
A page titled “Whoops Part 2” is coming soon. This is Connecticut museum visit #556
Whoops.
This mistake is my own. Well, for the most part.

I’ve scoured the various Connecticut town fair websites over the years trying to be sure I get to all of those with museum. I’m hardly a town fair fanatic, but I’m always willing to plunk down the entry (and sometimes parking) fees in an effort to bring you, the best readership in all the land, yet another Connecticut museum visit experience.
Several town fairs have museums from Orange to Durham to Berlin to Woodstock. So you can imagine my joy when I can visit not one, but two museums at one fair. This is the case here in Bethlehem and also at the Berlin Fair.

The problem with the Bethlehem Fair museums is that they don’t really promote them as museums at all. While at the fair here, you wouldn’t know you’re at either museum, which are literally right next to each other in the main exhibition hall.
I italicized that because I, being the genius that I am, made a beeline straight through the photographs and into the separate Art Barn next door thinking that I was here for the non-existent Bethlehem Fair Art Museum rather than what they call the Bethlehem Fair Photo Museum.

Sigh.
In my defense, that screenshot is from the online map and the words “Photo Museum” do not exist anywhere in the 151-page fair guide. Nor do they exist, I don’t believe, on the maps at the fairgrounds, nor at the Photo Museum itself. As a result, I only have a couple pictures of the photo museum… and lots of pictures from the Art Barn next door… which I thought was the thing I drove out to Bethlehem for.
And before you ask, no, I’m not going back next year to right this wrong. I’m just not. I was there. I walked up and down the 3 or 4 rows of the “photo museum.” I even got distracted by a fair-goer because, well, because she was all-in on the country fair aesthetic. This picture of her were taken right in the heart of the Bethlehem Fair Photo Museum! Like, literally in the middle of it!

And yet I only have one picture of one photo hanging on the temporary walls! Shame on me. But props to the Bethlehem Fair photograph judges for giving this one a ribbon:

I took this picture because I was surprised to see it getting a ribbon in Bethlehem of all places. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t last the weekend – I visited at the opening on the fair’s first day, so I was here maybe 20 minutes into the fair’s life in 2026. I wish that picture well. (Bethlehem was the 3rd most MAGA town in Connecticut per the 2024 election results.)
While I don’t have any other pictures of the photo museum, I do have several photos of is the Art Barn. Which isn’t listed as a museum anywhere. But you know what? I’m happy to highlight these western Connecticut artists. They don’t need a museum to show their talents, they have the Art Barn!

Audacious trying to draw the most beautiful woman to have lived!
I experienced what was the 101st Bethlehem Fair, which is pretty nuts. I walked the entire length of the joint a couple times, soaking in the scenes. This is a very typical small town fair and it was really sweet to hear some little kids on my way in saying things like, “I’m so excited!” Pure Norman Rockwell Americana right there.
I apologize to the Bethlehem Fair Photo Museum (that only exists, as best as I can tell, on that one page on the online map of the fair). Somehow I’m guessing the vast CTMQ audience will forgive me.
