The Most Photographed Church in New England

November 3, 2008 by Steve 1 Comment

… Maybe. Who Knows.
First Congregational Church, Litchfield

I’m not sure what more to say about this. This claim is verified on many sites… In fact, one says this: “The town of Litchfield is often called “New England’s most beautiful town” and worth a special trip during your Northwest Connecticut vacations just to visit and admire the carefully preserved 18th and 19th century homes. The Congregational Church built in 1828 is the most photographed church in New England.” (Bolding mine.)

Off the Beaten Path for Connecticut (a fantastic book, by the way) notes that it is “one of the” most photographed churches in New England.

If you’re like me, you wonder how they would come up with such an accolade, but if you’re like me, you roll with it – with caveats. (And speaking of rolling, I took this picture at 20 mph out my window without even lining up the shot. And it’s STILL pretty.)

(For what it’s worth, I have always loved the East Canaan Congregational Church northwest of here. The setting is beautiful.)

Our church website is much better than it was before, and that is now a broken link. Please update it to fcclitchfield.com.
